In Composition with Vases, Plates and an Umbrella, the artist created a horizontal, balanced composition of decorative household items. Against a dark background, the items arranged on the table stand out with their multi-coloured presentation. The warm golden tones in the spray of flowers, the overturned candlestick and the rim of a vase dominate, as do the white and red on the porcelain plates – colours that are picked up in the umbrella and the base of the vase. The warm, earthy colours are balanced with the cool blue-grey of the jug and the urn.
