Exhibition duration: 30 May until 31 July 2026.
The A. G. Leventis Gallery presents the temporary exhibition In Dialogue: Niki Marangou – Rodi Constantoglou, a tribute to Niki Marangou, a significant and multifaceted creator whose work continues to inspire and remain in dialogue with the present.
The first exhibition at the A. G. Leventis Gallery in her memory took place in 2016, just three years after her sudden and untimely death in Egypt. Today, as part of the ongoing support of the Anastasios G. Leventis Foundation for her literary and artistic legacy, a second tribute exhibition is presented, shifting attention to the ‘afterlife’ of her work and the ways in which it continues to influence contemporary creators.
At the core of the exhibition lies the visual dialogue between the work of Niki Marangou and the painting of Rodi Constantoglou. Their works are shown in parallel, revealing affinities in the use of colour, painterly language, and a shared sensitivity of artistic expression. In particular, a series of Constantoglou’s works draws inspiration from Marangou’s writing, entering into dialogue with her novels Γιατρός από τη Βιέννη [Doctor from Vienna] and Είναι ο πάνθηρας ζωντανός; [Is the Panther Alive?], as well as the biographical work Η Νίκη σαν φοίνικας [Niki Like a Phoenix] by Klairi Mitsotaki.
Stephanos Stephanides composed a creative narrative on Niki Marangou and her work. Drawing on their personal acquaintance, he approaches her through memory and shared experience, weaving a story in which her figure is reconstructed through images and moments from both past and future. At the same time, her daughter, Katerina Attalidou, presents a personal text-ode, portraying her mother as an inexhaustible source of inspiration, whose creativity was inseparable from the way she lived, travelled, and perceived the world. Visual artist, curator, and art educator Christina Darra contributed a short text on the creative synergy between the two artists in the exhibition publication.
The curatorial approach is enriched by selected excerpts from Marangou’s literary work, offering the public a multi-layered experience of her artistic universe.
The exhibition, presented at Coco_Creative Activity Centre of the Leventis Gallery, confirms that the work of Niki Marangou remains alive and continually relevant.
The exhibition is coordinated by Katerina Stephanides, Director of the A. G. Leventis Gallery, and curated by Loukia Loizou Hadjigavriel, Director of the Anastasios G. Leventis Foundation and Styliana Ioannidou, Assistant Curator of the A. G. Leventis Gallery.
