G. Leventis Gallery Paris Collection. DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 14 October 2026\, at 19.30\n‘Constantine Leventis’ Auditorium\, A. G. Leventis Gallery \n‘Art in Public Space: \nHistory\, Challenges and Transformations’ \nThe A. G. Leventis Gallery welcomes Dr. Syrago Tsiara\, Art Historian and Director General of the National Gallery – Alexandros Soutsos Museum\, as part of its Wednesday Lectures series. \nTaking as its starting point the history of public sculpture in Europe from the 19th century to the present day\, Dr Syrago Tsiara will trace the changes in the ways art occupies\, gives meaning to and transforms public space. The lecture will shed light on issues of historicity\, transformation and the changing role\, forms and audiences of public art\, while also addressing cases involving the rupture or removal of monuments from public space—phenomena that reflect shifts in the culture of managing the public sphere by local communities\, nation-states\, institutions and citizens’ groups. \nDr Syrago Tsiara is an art historian and curator. Since 2022\, she has served as Director General of the National Gallery – Alexandros Soutsos Museum. She studied History and Archaeology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Social History of Art at the University of Leeds\, while her doctoral dissertation focused on the role of public sculpture in shaping national memory. She worked in Thessaloniki\, initially as curator of the Costakis Collection at the State Museum of Contemporary Art and subsequently as Director of the Contemporary Art Centre\, the Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art and the MOMus Museum of Contemporary Art. SUMMARY:PLOCK! – When Contemporary Circus Meets Painting
DESCRIPTION:FULLY BOOKED \nThe Mitsikouri Festival and the A. G. Leventis Gallery join forces to bring the performing and visual arts closer to children and their families. \nAs part of this collaboration\, the A. G. Leventis Gallery welcomes PLOCK!\, a performance by the Belgian company Grensgeval – a unique experience combining contemporary circus\, movement\, sound and live painting. \nInspired by the work and creative process of Jackson Pollock\, PLOCK! follows Jakob as he attempts to create the ‘perfect’ painting. Paint drips\, splashes\, spills and spreads\, while gradually the performer’s entire body becomes part of the painting process. \nThrough play\, movement and experimentation\, the stage is transformed into a living canvas\, as the creation of an artwork unfolds before the audience’s eyes. \nNon-verbal and highly visual\, PLOCK! is designed for children aged 4 and over and their families\, inviting young and old alike to discover a different kind of encounter between painting and the performing arts. \nThe presentation of PLOCK! is held under the auspices of the Embassy of Belgium in Greece and Cyprus. \nPerformances\nSaturday 17 October 2026 | 17.00\nSunday 18 October 2026 | 11.00 & 17.00 \nAges: 4+  \nVenue: A. G. Leventis Gallery\, in collaboration with the Cyprus Art Therapists and Members Society\, is organising an informative and experiential presentation focusing on art psychotherapy for older adults. \nDrawing on four years of experience from the group art psychotherapy programme\, which has been running since 2022\, the presentation will explore its development and key findings\, with reference to loneliness\, social isolation\, connection and a sense of belonging. \nThe new phase of the programme for 2026–2027 will also be presented\, including the development of a pilot referral framework based on the principles of Cultural Prescribing. Through this framework\, older adults who meet the relevant criteria will be able to participate in the programme free of charge\, following a referral by a psychiatrist.\nThe presentation will also include a short experiential workshop inspired by artworks from the Permanent Collections of the A. G. Through mime\, they will observe\, interpret and recreate selected works of art from their own perspective\, giving shape to a gallery entirely their own! \nWhen the ‘thousand silences’ give way once again to the ‘thousand words’\, the images will be transformed into stories.
