DESCRIPTION:Slow Sew x A. G. Leventis Gallery\nSewing Workshop: ‘Velvet Pouch’\nGuided by Georgia Moditi and Anna Apostolou. \nParticipants will have the opportunity to create their own unique velvet pouch\, drawing inspiration from the Gallery’s Paris Collection. \nInspired by Louis-Léopold Boilly’s\, Young Woman in white leaning on a Sundial\, we will create a velvet pouch inspired by one of the earliest forms of the modern handbag. The painting offers a distinctive glimpse into early 19th century fashion\, while also depicting one of the earliest forms of the women’s handbag. With the rise of Empire-style dresses\, a fashion that emerged in France and spread across Europe\, the large\, concealed pockets worn with earlier styles of clothing gradually fell out of use. This gave rise to the need for a small handbag in which women could carry their personal belongings when going out. \nUsing soft velvet\, delicate stitches and sparkling details\, we will decorate our own unique little pouches with beads\, sequins\, pearl beads and other materials.
