Le Cosmonaute / The Cosmonaut

Year:

NOTE: From the point of view of technique, this etching and the one below each combine the traditional etching process using acid – aquatint – and a completely new process, introduced by engraver Henri Goetz (1909-1989) in 1967, called carborundum, in which an extremely resistant industrial metallic powder is used on the plate. the annotation H.C. [hors-commerce] on both prints indicates that these two sheets, reserved for the private use of the artist, were not numbered among the small run of 75 proof impressions retained for each of these prints, published by Adrien Maeght, the renowned Parisian gallery owner and dealer of Miró’s art. In both cases, the deeply humorous manipulation of the subtly figurative forms and the density of the colours make them instantly recognisable examples of the art of Miró.
