NOTE: Debucourt helpfully dated this engraving on the print, 1791. It was published as the pendant to a slightly earlier one, La Croisée, showing a young woman sitting on a window ledge receiving the advances of a young man on a ladder. The letter of the print says that the present aquatint was both drawn and engraved by Debucourt, so neither the oil painting formerly in the Groult collection nor the gouache published when in the George and Florence Blumenthal collection (The Catalogue of the Art Collection of George and Florence Blumenthal, Vol. 5, Paris 1930, pl. XIV) can have been the original for it.
