He studied in London at the Heatherley School of Fine Art and in Paris at André Lhote’s art school. From 1959 until his death, he lived and worked in Cyprus. In 1960 he opened the Apophasi Gallery in Nicosia, which played an important role in the development of Cypriot cultural life and activity.

He produced a multi-dimensional oeuvre, which marked new directions in Cypriot art. His early works developed a fruitful discourse with Cézanne, Braque, Matisse and Picasso. For a certain time he was influenced by Lhote’s Cubist vocabulary. In 1959 he adopted more abstract forms of expression, which led him to complete abstraction. He explored new materials in painting and extended into space by creating constructions and sculptures. He also took up reliefs, textile appliqué, printmaking and mosaic.

From 1954 he showed his work in solo exhibitions in Cyprus (1954, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1965, 1967, 1968) and Beirut (1960, 1963). He also took part in group exhibitions in Cyprus, Paris and London. In 1968 he represented Cyprus in the Venice Biennale.
