Informative Presentation for Healthcare Professionals
‘Art Psychotherapy and Older Adults:
From the Experience of a Four-Year Programme to the Development of a Referral Framework’
The A. G. Leventis Gallery, in collaboration with the Cyprus Art Therapists and Members Society, is organising an informative and experiential presentation focusing on art psychotherapy for older adults.
Drawing on four years of experience from the group art psychotherapy programme, which has been running since 2022, the presentation will explore its development and key findings, with reference to loneliness, social isolation, connection and a sense of belonging.
The new phase of the programme for 2026–2027 will also be presented, including the development of a pilot referral framework based on the principles of Cultural Prescribing. Through this framework, older adults who meet the relevant criteria will be able to participate in the programme free of charge, following a referral by a psychiatrist.
The presentation will also include a short experiential workshop inspired by artworks from the Permanent Collections of the A. G. Leventis Gallery, offering participants the opportunity to experience some of the basic principles of art psychotherapy in practice.
The event is aimed at healthcare, mental health and social care professionals, as well as representatives of public services, organisations and bodies working in the fields of health, culture and older adults.
