‘Women in Cypriot Art
Visibility – Depiction – Recognition’
With Thekla Kyritsi and Magdalene Andreou.
If art was the only source for the recent past, what image would we have of Cypriot women and gender relations in Cypriot society? In what roles are women depicted? Do these roles reflect the full range of female activity, or are certain roles selectively reproduced and romanticized?
These are the main topics that the interactive workshop, organized by the A. G. Leventis Gallery in collaboration with the Centre for Gender Equality and History (CGEH), will address on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Through interactive, group activities, and using paintings from the Cyprus Collection of the A.G. Leventis Gallery, as a starting point, participants will have the opportunity to explore the lack of visibility of women’s history in Cyprus, the social relations, and gender roles in Cypriot art.
The workshop is taking place on the occasion of Women’s History Month.
